TYDEP Urges Action Against Post-Rain Dengue and Rodents; City Promotes “Check, Empty, Clean, Scrub” and “Three Nos” for Rodent Control

Following two weeks of heavy rainfall, accumulated standing water across Taoyuan has elevated the risk of disease-vector mosquito breeding. To prevent outbreaks, the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) has initiated comprehensive cleanup and prevention operations. Mobilizing local cleaning teams and environmental volunteers, TYDEP is intensifying disinfection and inspections across local hotspots. It urges residents to clean their surroundings during this critical post-rain window for community health.

TYDEP Director-General Yen Chi-Liang stated that to stop the vector breeding, the department is actively executing community cleanups. Since June 13, 2026, TYDEP has mobilized 467 environmental volunteer teams—comprising approximately 26,000 volunteers—to conduct thorough inspections. These efforts have cleared 58,874 kilograms of garbage and removed 1,868 stagnant water containers.

TYDEP pointed out that, along with Dengue prevention, rodent risks have also risen. Addressing recent public concerns over rodent management, the department reminded residents that the key to prevention lies in disrupting their habitats at the source. Citizens are urged to enforce the “Three Nos” principles of rodent control: “No food, no entry, and no shelter.” Residents should properly manage food waste, eliminate food sources, and seal wall cavities to minimize rodent nesting and gathering.

Zhang Shu-Hao, Director-General of the Office of Environmental Management, noted that the office has disinfected 466 neighborhoods across the city since April, achieving a 90% completion rate. Disinfection for all 519 neighborhoods is scheduled for completion by the end of June. Furthermore, to protect student health, it will also conduct a comprehensive disinfection across 353 local high schools, junior highs, elementary schools, and kindergartens throughout July.

Zhang emphasized that post-rain inspections within one week are critical. Breaking the mosquito breeding chain requires public cooperation to actively check properties and implement the “Check, Empty, Clean, Scrub” principles.

TYDEP calls for collective action to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for everyone.
