The Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) has rolled out its “Smart Environmental Determination System 2.0,” introducing a fully digital workflow that releases applicants from waiting for physical paper delivery. Under the upgraded platform, applicants receive immediate email notifications and can instantly download their environmental review results online, significantly accelerating the factory registration process.
While other municipalities across Taiwan still require paper-based applications that demand physical travel or mail delivery, TYDEP pioneered nationwide digitized environmental determinations in 2019. With this initiative, Taoyuan became the first local government to fully automate these services.
The 2.0 upgrade further compresses the traditional three-to-seven-day waiting period into real-time document retrieval, maximizing administrative efficiency while eliminating commuting and courier logistics for local businesses. This digital shift saves tens of thousands of sheets of paper annually and cuts transit-related emissions by an estimated 2,500 kilograms of CO₂e, delivering on both public convenience and environmental sustainability.
The new system also features optimized tracking tools that provide real-time status updates, delivering a transparent and simplified pipeline that has received strong support from industry operators. Moving forward, TYDEP will continue upgrading platform functionalities to enhance government performance while advancing a sustainable balance between economic growth and environmental protection.
