Taoyuan’s carbon reduction efforts are moving from policy to practice. The Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) announced that four more neighborhoods—Guangde, Xingnan, Fulin, and Fuyuan—have earned Bronze-Level certification from the Ministry of Environment. These communities were recognized for local initiatives such as park maintenance and low-carbon communal dining. TYDEP noted that with a participation rate exceeding 90% across 484 administrative villages, Taoyuan continues to set a benchmark for creative and engaging green living.
TYDEP Director-General Yen Chi-Liang highlighted the exceptional performance of these villages in greening and energy efficiency. Their total green space exceeds 22,500 square meters—equivalent to 1,600 trees—which can absorb around 32 metric tons of carbon annually while mitigating flood and urban heat. Additionally, upgrading to LED systems saves 15,000 kWh per year, enough to power 267 households for a month. Communal dining and food-saving initiatives collectively reduce more than 1,200 kilograms of carbon emissions annually. In terms of renewable energy, the installation of solar photovoltaic systems contributed to a carbon reduction of approximately 193 metric tons in 2025. These practical solutions empower residents to adopt low-carbon habits while boosting local air quality and community appeal.
According to TYDEP, each village showcased unique initiatives: Guangde Village transformed idle community center spaces into vibrant urban gardens; Xingnam Village expanded greenery along Zhongzheng Park’s pedestrian paths; and Fulin Village successfully preserved green spaces amidst urban development while promoting low-carbon communal dining. Meanwhile, Fuyuan Village revitalized marginal land into community parks and integrated renewable energy with its “zero-waste” senior dining programs.
TYDEP emphasized that public participation is the cornerstone of sustainable living. Led by local chiefs and volunteers, these villages have made carbon reduction a daily habit. TYDEP will continue to invest in local communities to build a low-carbon Taoyuan, ensuring a win-win for the environment and quality of life.
