As the three-day 228 Peace Memorial Day holiday approaches, the Taoyuan City’s sanitation teams will maintain regular waste collection services to ensure uninterrupted environmental hygiene. Garbage collection will proceed as usual on February 27 (Friday) and February 28 (Saturday), following standard weekday schedules. Services will only be suspended on Sunday (March 1).
Director Chang Shu-Hao of the Office of Environmental Management noted that waste volume during the holiday period is expected to reach approximately 1.7 times that of a typical day. In response, sanitation teams have made advance arrangements in manpower and vehicle deployments to ensure uninterrupted service. Director Chang also reminded residents to properly sort recyclables and drain food waste. For example, items such as takeout containers and beverage bottles should be sorted and recycled accordingly. For high-pressure containers such as gas canisters and spray cans, residents must follow the four-step procedure: deplete the contents, pack separately, label clearly, and hand over for recycling. Similarly, lithium batteries and power banks should be kept out of general waste to prevent fire risks caused by compression or friction during collection, ensuring the safety of frontline workers.
To streamline the process, the Office of Environmental Management further recommends residents use the “Taoyuan Garbage Truck” mobile app or visit the official website to check real-time collection routes and schedules. This digital tool allows citizens to track arrival times from their smartphones, reducing wait times on the street and allowing for more flexible holiday planning.
The Office concluded by reminding residents to stay mindful of garbage collection schedules during the holiday to avoid missing pickup times. While enjoying the break, residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly, working together to maintain a clean and orderly urban environment across Taoyuan.
