The Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) held the “Net-Zero Diary × Lucky Draw for Green Rewards” campaign from December 1 to December 31, 2025. Through the “Taoyuan Carbon Neutral Information Platform,” the initiative encouraged residents to record their daily carbon reduction actions, including low-carbon diets, green transportation, plastic reduction, and energy conservation in everyday life. Residents who logged into the platform using their Citizen Card accounts, completed registration, and recorded at least one carbon-reducing action were eligible to enter the prize draw. Designed with simple operation and an incentive mechanism to lower participation barriers, the campaign attracted residents of different age groups and lifestyles, receiving an enthusiastic response.

TYDEP Director-General Yan Ji-Liang stated that during the one-month campaign, tangible results were achieved, with a total carbon reduction of 6,915 kilograms. This is equivalent to saving approximately 14,000 kWh of electricity, or planting 305 trees. Director-General Yan noted that the data demonstrate how small changes in daily habits can accumulate into measurable carbon reduction outcomes. When individual behavioral change aligns with community engagement, the overall impact is amplified. He encouraged residents to continue recording their actions on the platform, allowing net-zero living to grow from individual practice into community consensus.

TYDEP highlighted several individuals and community groups whose participation serves as an inspiring example for broader promotion. The individual category champion, Ms. Lin from Pingzhen District, achieved a remarkable 500 kg of carbon reduction in a single month, earning the title of a true “carbon reduction champion.” Her practical measures included collecting rainwater for irrigation, replacing short-distance motorcycle trips with walking, reducing single-use products, adopting a plant-based diet, and conserving electricity—demonstrating how daily habits can be translated into measurable carbon savings. In the community competition category, Yixing Borough in Pingzhen District secured first place with nearly 1,000 kilograms of total carbon reduction. Through outreach by the Borough Chief and volunteers at community care centers, as well as neighborhood engagement and activity-driven participation, low-carbon practices were successfully integrated into everyday community life, forming a replicable local model worthy of reference and promotion by other neighborhoods.

TYDEP noted that the campaign offered a variety of eco-friendly prizes, including environmentally friendly laundry detergent, reusable shopping bags, reusable tableware sets, and handmade soap. The top ten individuals in carbon reduction rankings also received additional eco-bath gift sets. Residents are encouraged to continue recording their carbon-reduction actions on the platform, as every recorded action represents a contribution to urban sustainability. By tracking accumulated efforts, participants can see their positive environmental impact and become role models within their communities. The list of award recipients and campaign details have been published on the “Carbon Neutral Information Platform.” Rankings and updates during the campaign period were also posted on the Facebook fan page of TYDEP. The platform also provides user guides and frequently asked questions to help first-time users quickly get started and to allow residents to check their carbon reduction records at any time.

Looking ahead, TYDEP will build upon the results of this campaign to further optimize the Net-Zero Diary platform. Future plans include introducing a carbon reduction points redemption system and expanding collaboration with neighborhood communities, volunteers, and local organizations to promote more accessible carbon reduction initiatives. TYDEP emphasized that through policy guidance and community co-creation, they hope more residents can be encouraged to participate in carbon reduction through small daily steps, enhancing personal quality of life while advancing Taoyuan’s sustainable net-zero vision.
