The Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) has announced the “Taoyuan City E-Scooter Subsidy Program” for 2026. Building on last year’s general subsidies for replacing old motorcycles and purchasing new e-scooters, the program continues to promote a range of targeted incentive schemes, including “E-Ride for Families,” “E-Scooter for Prime Riders,” “E-Scooter for Youth,” “E-Scooter for Indigenous Residents,” and “E-Scooter for Fuxing District and Low-Income Residents.” This year, TYDEP has further introduced two new bonus programs for delivery riders and community patrol teams, bringing the maximum total subsidy to NT$44,000, the highest among Taiwan’s six special municipalities. The subsidy program runs from January 1 to December 31, 2026, with applications accepted until January 10, 2027. As slots are limited, eligible residents are encouraged to apply early.
TYDEP Director-General Yan Ji-Liang stated that the number of e-scooters in Taoyuan has surpassed 100,000 units, accounting for a 7.21% market share, ranking second among the six special municipalities. while Taoyuan leads the nation in subsidy amounts. This reflects the City Government’s strong commitment to promoting green transportation. Director-General Yan emphasized that the features of this year’s program are “substantial incentive increases and broader beneficiary coverage,” balancing environmental sustainability with social equity. Under the general subsidy scheme, applicants replacing two-stroke motorcycles are eligible for up to NT$15,000, while those replacing first- to fifth-generation motorcycles can receive up to NT$12,000. New e-scooter purchases qualify for subsidies of up to NT$4,000. When combined with additional incentive programs, low-income households or residents of Fuxing District may receive an extra NT$10,000, families with young children NT$6,000, working-age adults NT$4,000, youth NT$1,000, Indigenous residents NT$1,000, delivery riders NT$3,000, and community patrol team members NT$5,000, bringing the total possible subsidy to NT$44,000.
TYDEP further explained that under the general subsidy program, residents who replace two-stroke motorcycles with e-scooters are eligible for subsidies of up to NT$15,000. Those replacing first- to fifth-generation motorcycles, manufactured before December 31, 2016, with e-scooters may receive up to NT$12,000, while new e-scooter purchases qualify for subsidies of up to NT$4,000, with 6,000 slots available. In addition, seven bonus incentive programs are offered this year: Low-income households and residents of Fuxing District are eligible for an extra NT$10,000. Families with children aged 0-12 can apply for the “E-Ride for Families” bonus of NT$6,000, with 2,500 spots available. Residents aged 36–45 qualify for the “E-Scooter for Prime Riders” bonus of NT$4,000, with 2,500 slots. Young residents between 18 and 35 years old can receive the “E-Scooter for Youth” bonus of NT$1,000, with 1,000 places available. Indigenous residents are eligible for the “E-Scooter for Indigenous Residents” of NT$1,000, with 1,000 slots offered. Delivery service personnel can apply for the “E-Scooter for Delivery Riders” of NT$3,000, with 1,000 positions available. Lastly, members of Community Patrol Teams participating in patrol duties can receive a NT$5,000 bonus, with five slots allocated per team.
TYDEP reminded residents that applicants must be at least 18 years old and have been registered residents of Taoyuan as of December 31, 2024, or be foreign nationals holding valid residence permits who reside in Taoyuan and meet spousal household registration requirements. For the newly introduced delivery rider and neighborhood watch team programs, applicants are only required to submit relevant proof documents.
