The 2026 Taoyuan ON AIR New Year’s Eve Concerts were held simultaneously at two venues, the Rakuten Taoyuan Baseball Stadium in Qingpu and the Asia Silicon Valley IoT Outdoor Plaza. The events drew massive crowds with performances by popular singers and Korean artists. To maintain cleanliness, the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) deployed personnel and equipment to the venues starting at 3 p.m. on December 31. With a large workforce and on-site cleanup operations, approximately 2.5 metric tons of general waste and 1.6 metric tons of recyclable materials were collected.
For this year’s New Year’s Eve events, TYDEP worked in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and the Rakuten Baseball Stadium, mobilizing 120 sanitation workers and 13 garbage collection vehicles. Despite cold temperatures and strong winds, cleanup crews worked throughout the night to sweep streets and remove waste. Many sanitation workers sacrificed rest time to ensure that the cleanup was completed as quickly as possible, restoring the cityscape to its usual cleanliness.
TYDEP noted that Taoyuan began implementing its official trash bag policy for government agencies, schools, and markets in January 2026. The New Year’s Eve concerts marked the first large-scale event to formally adopt the official trash bags, resulting in an estimated 30% reduction in waste, effectively demonstrating the principle of source reduction TYDEP will continue promoting environmental policies and encouraging public participation, working together with citizens to build a cleaner and more sustainable city.
