After a two-year pause, the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) has once again opened recruitment for cleaning team members. The official announcement was released on May 13 via the recruitment website. Online registration began on May 16 and closed at midnight on May 22. A total of 4,143 citizens signed up for the recruitment. Only 435 positions will be filled, making the competition even more intense than for national civil service exams. The first round of professional skills testing will take place from June 9 to 15, followed by a written exam on June 28. Results will be announced on July 14.

Yen Chi-Liang, Director General of TYDEP, noted that of the 4,143 applicants, 2,953 were male and 1,190 were female, a ratio of roughly 3 to 1. Fifty-eight of the applicants hold a master’s degree or higher. Yen emphasized that the entire recruitment process upholds the principles of fairness, impartiality, and transparency to ensure all applicants compete on an equal footing. Final selection will be based on exam scores. Recruits will then be assigned based on actual personnel needs in each district unit, ensuring optimal manpower allocation and balanced regional services.

Chang Shu-Hao, Director of the Office of Environmental Management, added that by exam region, the First Region (Taoyuan, Guishan, Luzhu) had 1,149 applicants competing for 141 spots; the Second Region (Zhongli, Pingzhen, Yangmei) had 1,258 applicants for 134 spots; the Third Region (Bade, Daxi, Longtan) had 720 applicants for 91 spots; and the Fourth Region (Xinwu, Guanyin, Dayuan) had 438 applicants for 54 spots. Additionally, 351 applied for the Administrative Group, 183 for the Disability quota, 30 for the Workplace Safety Group, and 14 for the Carpentry Group.

According to TYDEP, the recruitment process includes a two-phase assessment: a professional skills test followed by a written exam. Skills testing will be held from June 9 to 15. For driver positions, road driving skills will be tested from June 9 to 12. For general and Indigenous applicants, physical tests will be conducted on June 14 and 15. These consist of a 30-meter weighted shuttle run (60 meters in total), with weights of 15 kg for men and 8 kg for women. Applicants with disabilities will take a recycling classification test instead of the physical test.

The written exam will take place on June 28. The question database, released on May 13, is available on the registration website (https://tyoem114.twexam.com) and covers environmental regulations and government ethics laws. Hired applicants are expected to begin working in batches starting this August. This recruitment underscores Taoyuan’s commitment to environmental quality, workforce standards, and transparent governance.
