The Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) is launching a series of “Environmental Education Exploration Activities” from April to July to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. Organized in collaboration with local community groups and resources, these diverse activities will take place on weekends, holidays, and during the summer break. TYDEP encourages kindergarten and elementary school students, along with their parents, to participate. The program features ecological tours, DIY workshops, and field experiences that introduce concepts such as net-zero emissions, environmental sustainability, and ecological conservation, with practical applications for daily life. Participation is free, with each session limited to 16 parent-child pairs on a first-come, first-served basis.

TYDEP Director Yan Ji-Liang stated that the exploration program offers three themed courses: “Firefly Creek Adventure,” “Tidal Zone Wonders,” and “Miniature Fantasy Journey.” Kicking off in April, Firefly Creek Adventure invites families to explore firefly ecology. Guided by experts, participants will learn about fireflies’ habits and the importance of habitat conservation while observing these glowing insects up close—fostering environmental awareness and appreciation. In June, Tidal Zone Wonders brings families to Taoyuan’s coastal areas to explore the unique stone weirs in Ejian. Participants will discover how traditional fishing methods harmonize with marine ecosystems. Besides, through field observation, families will learn how fishing methods in Ejian help reduce impacts on marine resources, encouraging a deeper appreciation and commitment to ocean conservation. In July, Miniature Fantasy Journey will be held at Window on World Miniature and Cultural Institution, an environmental education facility. More than a hundred miniature models with cultural and educational significance will be on display, guiding parents and children to learn about the issue of net-zero emissions. Through the “Happy Voyage PAPAGO” course, participants will learn about the environmental impacts of transportation development and be guided to reflect on ways to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt greener lifestyles.

TYDEP added that registration is now available online through the BeClass system, starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Each of the seven sessions is limited to 16 parent-child pairs (one adult and one child per group), and each participant may only register one session. Citizens are invited to take part in this fun and educational journey to support environmental sustainability and help build a greener future together.
