2024 Taoyuan City Environmental Sustainability Joint Award Ceremony: Mayor Chang Commends Public-Private Collaboration for a Greener Future City

On December 17, Taoyuan City Mayor Chang San-cheng attended the 2024 Taoyuan City Environmental Sustainability Joint Award Ceremony held in the City Hall Auditorium. The event honored 129 exemplary organizations across eight award categories, including outstanding green procurement units, green stores, and recipients of the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award. Mayor Chang emphasized that Taoyuan's leading position in international environmental certifications is the result of collective efforts, not those of a single department. He expressed gratitude to businesses and citizens for their support of the city's environmental initiatives, envisioning Taoyuan as a model of sustainable development and a cleaner, more vibrant home for its residents.

The Department of Environment Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP) reported that the total amount of private sector green procurement in Taoyuan increased significantly from NT$1.95 billion in 2015 to NT$8.36 billion in 2023. Similarly, sales of green products from the city's green stores surged from NT$380 million in 2015 to NT$1.38 billion in 2023, reflecting the strong green consumption awareness among private enterprises and their support for environmentally friendly products.

At this year's Taoyuan City Environmental Sustainability Joint Award Ceremony, 129 exemplary units were recognized for their remarkable achievements. Among these, 75 entities were commended for outstanding green procurement, with 16 of them achieving procurement amounts exceeding NT$100 million, showcasing exceptional performance in this aspect. Additionally, six companies and institutions in Taoyuan received the 2024 National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award, setting benchmarks for net-zero carbon emissions. Taoyuan also leads the nation with 17 hospitality businesses earning environmental certification labels. Additionally, Taoyuan boasts 17 hospitality businesses that have earned environmental certification labels, the highest number in the nation. Moreover, three local chain medical systems have been recognized for actively implementing net-zero policies while ensuring employee health and safety, exemplifying corporate commitment to green office initiatives.

Furthermore, in the development of low-carbon sustainable communities, Taoyuan achieved significant milestones last year (2023), with one district-level and two village-level locations earning the highest “ilver Certification.” his brings the city's cumulative certification count to tie with Tainan for the national lead. In the River Adoption Program, 11 companies received the top honor of “igh Distinction Award,” hile 9 others were awarded “xcellence Award,” howcasing corporate dedication to environmental conservation.

Today's ceremony was attended by Yeh Meng-fen, Deputy Director-General of the TYDEP; Lu Ming-chi Director of the Office of Coast and Resource Circulation Construction, Taoyuan; Luzhu District Chief Lee Yue-tan; Deputy Director of the Taoyuan District Office Chiu Chuang-cheng; Taoyuan City Industrial Association Secretary-General Chung Chen-feng; Deputy Secretary-General Li Hui-yi; and representatives from the award-winning organizations.
