The Taoyuan City Government will host the 2024 Taoyuan Net-Zero Promotion Industry Alliance Press Conference on November 20, inviting local businesses to explore carbon fee policies and reduction strategies. Experts and scholars will share insights to deepen industries' understanding of government resources and Taiwan’s key directions in carbon emissions reduction policies.
Chen Shih-wei, Director General of the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP), emphasized that to prepare businesses for carbon fee implementation, TYDEP has actively assisted companies in understanding their carbon emissions profiles. Since 2023, TYDEP has conducted 30 carbon inventory training courses, successfully training nearly 1,300 professionals and providing on-site carbon inventory guidance for 20 local enterprises. In 2025, TYDEP will introduce a Carbon Neutrality Management Course to equip businesses with skills aligned with international carbon neutrality standards. This initiative aims to build foundational knowledge of carbon credits and trading, enhancing corporate competitiveness in the emerging global 2050 net zero movement.
The Taoyuan City Government is leveraging cross-departmental communication platforms to provide municipal resources that support corporate transformation. In addition to continuing carbon inventory training in 2024, TYDEP will organize five Net-Zero Technology and Environmental Regulation Seminars. These will include resources for 35 regulated and 20 unregulated companies, offering guidance on low-carbon transitions, self-initiated carbon inventories, and subsidies for energy-saving and carbon reduction equipment upgrades. At the press conference, representatives from central government agencies will explain regulations on carbon fees and voluntary reductions. AU Optronics, a Double A award winner in the international Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), will share its carbon reduction strategies, inspiring businesses to allocate resources and propose self-reduction plans based on successful practices.
The Taoyuan City Government will also assist enterprises in drafting voluntary carbon reduction plans and forming an industry alliance to amplify the city’s net-zero transition efforts. These initiatives are projected to reduce Taoyuan's corporate carbon emissions by approximately 6.47 million metric tons, with the goal of achieving a 50% reduction by 2030. Moving forward, the city government will continue to organize professional net-zero and carbon reduction training, provide guidance and subsidies for corporate energy-saving measures, and promote industrial collaboration. Through these efforts, Taoyuan aims to not only enhance corporate carbon reduction effectiveness but also foster cooperation among industries, working collectively toward a net-zero future.
