In 2024, the Department of Environmental Protection (TYDEP) of the Taoyuan City Government organized the "Taoyuan City 2024 Environmental Education Picture Book Creation Contest" with themes focusing on "Taoyuan Issues, Net Zero Green Living, and Climate Change." The winners were announced today (July 19th), including the top three and 15 honorable mentions across the "Parent-Child Co-Creation Category," "Youth Creation Category," and "Social Creation Category," totaling 24 outstanding works. The Youth Creation Group was particularly noteworthy, attracting teams from over 30 schools nationwide. Teachers led students in the creation process, integrating their unique stories and ideas into diverse themes and showcasing the students' unique perspectives through picture books.
Since 2015, the TYDEP has published nearly a hundred excellent environmental education picture books. In addition to donating physical copies to the Taoyuan Public Library for public borrowing, e-books have also been made available for download on the "Taoyuan City Environmental Education Website" (http://tydep-eew.com.tw/) for online reading. The works selected this year will be available online in December, aiming to inspire readers to gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues through these educational picture books, fostering a strong environmental awareness among the younger generation.
