Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng attended the completion ceremony of the "Hsinchu County Shuangxin Bikeway Bridge Project" today (April 11th), demonstrating the successful case of inter-regional cooperation with Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke. In the past, cyclists were hindered by the estuary of the Fuxing River, needing to detour to the side lane of Provincial Highway 61 to reach Hsinchu County, often leading to congestion between small and large vehicles and posing serious safety hazards. The newly completed bridge project will provide cyclists with a better riding environment and connect the coastal bicycle lanes of Taoyuan and Hsinchu.
The "Shuangxin Bikeway Bridge," spanning between Taoyuan's Xinwu and Hsinchu's Xinfeng, was jointly constructed by the Taoyuan City Government and the Hsinchu County Government at Keke Harbor in Xinwu District. With a total length spanning 230 meters, the project required a budget of NT$79 million, with NT$61.5 million subsidized by the Highway Bureau, MOTC, and NT$4 million by the Taoyuan City Government. The planning, design, and construction were commissioned to the Hsinchu County Government. The project, which took one year and two months to complete, will be maintained and managed by the Taoyuan City Government in the future. With the opening of the Shuangxin Bikeway Bridge, the local recreational quality is greatly enhanced, connecting the coastal ecological tourism corridor and providing convenience for cyclists.
The Shuangxin Bikeway Bridge connects to the popular Xinwu Green Tunnel to the north. This bikeway is famous for its dense and lush forest paths, where cyclists ride through shaded areas under the trees while enjoying the sea breeze. On weekends and holidays, the area attracts numerous visitors, making it a favorite destination for cyclists. After the opening of the Shuangxin Bikeway Bridge, it is set to not only become a prominent landmark in the area but also create a connection between the tourist attractions of Taoyuan and Hsinchu, thereby elevating tourism value.
To enhance the quality of tourism for visitors, the Taoyuan City Government has been allocating construction funds annually in Xinwu District. Tourist attractions such as the Fuxing Temple Stone Weir Plaza, Guanhu Pavilion Trail, Bengang Beach, and Xinwu Coastal Botanical Garden are connected by the Xinwu Green Tunnel. Additionally, 13 comfortable public toilets have been built along the route to improve service quality. In the future, Taoyuan City will continue to promote important public works such as the connectivity of the Yong'an Fishing Port North Bank Bikeway, the creation of the Houhu River Waterfront Park, and the Houhu Wave Chasing Ladder. Everyone is welcome to come to Taoyuan to cycle and enjoy the unique coastal scenery.
