Starting from April 15th until July 2024, the Shinrong Refuse Incineration Plant will undergo scheduled maintenance on both furnaces. During the period of maintenance, both furnaces of the incineration plant will be shut down, which may cause some inconvenience to residents of Taoyuan District and Zhongli District, as the collection time for garbage may be delayed. To mitigate the impact on residents' daily lives, the Taoyuan City Department of Environmental Protection (TYDEP) has planned relevant contingency measures. Citizens are encouraged to use the Taoyuan Garbage Truck App more frequently to track the arrival times of garbage trucks.
The Shinrong Refuse Incineration Plant has been in operation for over 20 years since its launch in 2001. The aging state of the furnace has resulted in frequent shutdowns, reducing the processing capacity of garbage and affecting the collection of domestic waste. In order to effectively improve the efficiency of the incinerator, the incineration plant will undergo reconstruction and renovation from April 15th until July 2024. It is expected that after the completion of the improvement works, the processing capacity will return to the design capacity of the new plant, and the concentration of air pollutant emissions will also decrease significantly.
Chen Shih-wei, Director General of the TYDEP, stated that during the simultaneous shutdown of the incinerator furnaces, the TYDPEP had formulated contingency plans. Through advocacy, precise scheduling of garbage trucks, strengthening of garbage transfer, enhanced environmental cleaning and disinfection of garbage transfer stations, reducing the temporary storage time of garbage on alternate days, and regional mutual cooperation programs, citizens can avoid long waiting times when disposing of garbage at night. It is estimated that the overall punctuality rate of garbage collection can be maintained at over 90%.
Chang Shu-hao, Director of the Office of Environmental Management of the Taoyuan City Government, also emphasized that in order for citizens to more accurately grasp the arrival time of garbage trucks and understand the dynamic information of the clearing routes, mobile phone users can make more use of the "Taoyuan Garbage Truck" App to track the real-time location of garbage trucks. They can also use the garbage clearing route real-time inquiry system on the Office of Environmental Management's official website (https://route.tyemid.gov.tw/) to check the latest status of garbage collection and reduce waiting time outside.
