Today, a total of 4 teams comprising 76 members from the Taoyuan City Environmental Volunteer Team participated in the "2023 National Environmental Volunteer Elite Meetup" organized by the Ministry of Environment. The teams excelled in various categories, earning distinctions including: "Environmental Genius" received the "Outstanding Award," "Garbage Sorting Champions" secured the "Outstanding Award," "Resource Slam Dunk Masters" earned the "Excellence Award" and "Environmental Defense Battle" achieved the "Outstanding Award."
On October 29th, the "2023 National Environmental Volunteer Elite Meetup" took place at the Gymnasium of Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science in Tainan City, with over 2,000 environmental volunteers from 22 counties and cities nationwide competing in various activities. During the "Taoyuan City Environmental Volunteer Elite Meetup Preliminary Round" held on July 16th, 58 teams comprising approximately 1,100 environmental volunteers were invited to compete. The winners of each competition within this preliminary round earned the opportunity to represent Taoyuan City in the national competition. Under the leadership of Captain Li Hsiu-Wen, the Ruitai Borough Environmental Volunteer Team from Bade District achieved the "Outstanding Award" in the "Environmental Genius" category. Captain Lu Li-Ching led the Dachian Borough Environmental Volunteer Team, also from Bade District, to secure the "Outstanding Award" in the "Garbage Sorting Champions" category. Captain Chen Yue-Hua, leading the Bao'an Borough Environmental Volunteer Team from Taoyuan District, attained an "Excellence Award" in the "Resource Slam Dunk Masters" category. Additionally, Captain Huang Ya Jung, guiding the Nanmei Borough Environmental Volunteer Team from Guishan District, earned the "Outstanding Award" in the "Environmental Defense Battle" category.
In the "Environmental Genius" category, led by Captain Li Hsiu-Wen from the Ruitai Borough Environmental Volunteer Team in Bade District, team members engaged in collaborative gathering of current events and discussions on new environmental knowledge before the competition. They consolidated this content into a question bank format for mutual quiz practice sessions. Under the leadership of Captain Lu Li-Ching from the Dachian Borough Environmental Volunteer Team in Bade District, the "Resource Sorting Champions" category witnessed team members absorbing diverse recycling knowledge through their routine recycling duties. Led by Captain Chen Yue-Hua from the Bao'an Borough Environmental Volunteer Team in Taoyuan District, the "Resource Slam Dunk Masters" category saw members undergoing specialized shooting technique training before the competition to enhance overall accuracy. Additionally, the captain assisted in gathering and consolidating current event materials for team practice, resulting in commendable performance at the national level. In the "Environmental Defense Battle" category, under the leadership of Captain Huang Ya-Jung from the Nanmei Borough Environmental Volunteer Team in Guishan District, team members prepared by creating exam questions for each other, simulating real-life scenarios for practice. They formulated occupation strategies for the competition, allowing adaptive adjustments during the contest based on the evolving situation, ultimately achieving an exceptional performance by linking a straight line and earning the "Outstanding Award” category.
The environmental performance metrics in Taoyuan City has been growing each year, with outstanding achievements in various national environmental assessments, with the hard work of environmental volunteers evident to tall. In order to keep volunteers updated with the latest environmental knowledge, a representative team was specially led to engage in environmental education activities. Through a series of courses and experiences, it is hoped that volunteers absorb the learned content and apply it in their daily lives.
Chen Shi-Wei, Director-General of the Taoyuan City Department of Environmental Protection (TYDEP), pointed out that Taoyuan City has a remarkable number of over 37,000 environmental volunteers, ranking first nationwide. In terms of the proportion among residents, it also ranks first among the six direct municipalities of Taiwan. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to these volunteers for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment. The Taoyuan City representatives gave their all in the National Environmental Volunteer Elite Meetup and secured three outstanding awards. Their remarkable achievements are well-deserved, showcasing not just their efforts but also the commendable spirit of teamwork and determination exemplified by each team.
