The Taoyuan City Environmental Protection Department held the "Taoyuan City 2023 Environmental Protection Knowledge Contest" at Yuan Ze University on September 16, attracting hundreds of contestants to take the challenge. The competition is divided into four levels: elementary school, junior high school, high school (vocational), and social level. The top five winners from each level will form the Taoyuan representative team to compete in the national finals organized by the Ministry of Environment to win the glory for Taoyuan City.
Director Shi-Wei Chen of the Environmental Protection Department indicated that global environmental problems have become increasingly serious in recent years. Climate change's environmental impact has worsened and critical actions must be taken to protect the planet. The topics for the knowledge competition held every are quite diverse. They range from environmental common sense, environmental knowledge, climate change, ecological protection, energy, sustainability, technological innovation, community participation and policy to environmental protection actions. We must always be aware of and care about environmental issues and keep the environmental protection concepts current. We hope that by holding a knowledge contest in which all citizens can participate, we can raise the public's awareness and understanding of environmental knowledge, encourage people to engage in environmental protection actions and strive to achieve environmental sustainability!
The annual contest attracted contestants of all ages, with many involving entire families, schools, and communities. After a year of preparation and mutual encouragement, they took the challenge to achieve personal best results. Many new faces were either led by parents or teachers or encouraged by classmates to participate for the first time this year. They have brought new life to the annual environmental education event and introduced new forces to environmental education.
The winning results were announced after fierce competition. The first-place winners for each level were ○-Hsin Chen from Daye Elementary School, ○-Ting Tsai from Tongde Junior High School, ○-Yang Chou from the Affiliated Jhongli Senior High School of National Central University, and social-level contestant ○-Rui Huang. The top 10 winners in each level can receive certificates and prizes and the top 5 winners in each level will represent Taoyuan City in the national finals. We hope every outstanding player can do their best in the national finals and come out on top!
The Environmental Protection Department indicated that environmental education is the key to sustainable development. We hope to raise environmental awareness among people through entertainment and education, change their daily habits and support environmental protection through practical actions. The contestants can absorb the correct environmental education concepts by preparing for the competition, participating in environmental protection actions with diverse support, continuing to care about environmental education issues, paying attention to environmental ethics, applying what they have learned in daily life and passing on the knowledge to schools and families. Their efforts will then influence their family and friends to take environmental actions, allowing Taoyuan citizens to move toward an environmentally friendly and sustainable future.
