The Office of Coast Administration Construction, Taoyuan, held its first regular meeting of the third term on the 9th. Mayor Chang Shan-Cheng personally awarded appointment certificates to the 21 committee members, with a two-year term. This committee comprises 11 expert members, including 4 in ecological conservation and environmental education, 3 in cultural heritage and landscape creation, and 4 in disaster prevention and pollution control. The committee also includes 8 officials from various government agencies, such as the Ocean Conservation Administration of the Ocean Affairs Council, the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Taoyuan City Government. There are also 2 civilian representative members. The committee strives to balance gender equality and professional expertise.
Mayor Chang Shan-Cheng expressed that Taoyuan boasts a coastline of 51 kilometers, featuring a rich natural ecological environment. To address the complex issues of the coastline, experts, scholars, and representatives from civil society were invited to form this committee. The goal is to expand participation in coastal management affairs, gather opinions, build consensus, and provide references for city government decision-making. The committee actively promotes the sustainable development of the coastline.During the meeting, the Department of Coastal Management Engineering of the Taoyuan City Government presented the "Taoyuan Pearl Coast Construction Planning Concept."
Taoyuan's coastline includes two major tourist fishing ports – Jhubei and Yong'an – as well as cultural and natural landscapes such as the Xucuogang Wetland, Caota Sand Dunes, Guanxin Algal Reef, Xinwu Stone Weirs, and the cultural heritage of Taiwanese Beach Seine. Among these, the Caota Sand Dunes Geopark is the only geopark in Taiwan that focuses on protecting coastal sand dunes. Its dynamic desert-like landscapes attract numerous visitors for photography. The city government's collaboration with civil society has yielded fruitful results in its management. In addition, the city government has begun to use fishing ports as cores to inventory and connect surrounding unique attractions, itineraries, venues, and resources. The city government enhances cross-departmental communication and resource sharing, conducting work in transportation, integrated marketing, tourism services, and nature conservation. The goal is to achieve sustainable environments, a circular economy, ecological restoration, and low-carbon living, turning Taoyuan into a sustainable Pearl Coast.
