Today (July 21), Deputy Mayor Jun-Bin Su attended the inauguration ceremony of the Taoyuan Pavilion at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1, as the Taoyuan City Government actively participates in the 2023 SDGs Asia. The theme of this exhibition is "Sustainable Ongoing - Future of Taoyuan." It was created in partnership with numerous Taoyuan local enterprises to showcase their responses to low-carbon technology and sustainable development, providing a green living space for a green lifestyle. The show is divided into four major sections: "Charming Taoyuan," "Smart Technology," "Women and Children-Friendly," and "Environmental Sustainability." From July 21 to 23, there will be an interactive AR game where visitors can learn about sustainability and win exclusive limited presents like the Taoyuan Pavilion's distinctive reusable cup.
Deputy Mayor Jun-Bin Su highlighted the city's administrative notion of sustainable Taoyuan and a net-zero future at the SDGs Asia Summit, to transition from a low-carbon green city to a net-zero city. This year, Taoyuan has embraced low-carbon technology and friendly governance concepts, actively participating in the "2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA)" receiving 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze awards, ranking first among the six municipalities. The awards include "Smart Taoyuan Air Quality Management (Gold)," "Taoyuan Industrial Fuel Zero Transformation (Silver)," "Strengthening Urban Control through Virtual Power Plants (Silver)," "Recycled Materials in Public Projects (Bronze)," "Environmental Education and Development Goals in Taoyuan (Bronze)," and "Electric Mobility Go Easy (Bronze)." This demonstrates that carbon reduction is not just a slogan, it requires the integration of technology and digitization, as well as cross-domain cooperation, to plan specific and practical paths to achieve net-zero goals, while implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation operations. Taoyuan is committed to realizing the four major goals of "energy transformation," "industrial transformation," "lifestyle transformation," and "social transformation." By formulating action plans in the fields of energy, industry, lifestyle, and social transformation policies, the city aims to achieve a sustainable future.
Faced with the challenge of achieving net-zero energy by 2050, Taoyuan is encouraging "industrial transformation" through the use of smart technologies to optimize industrial energy use. The city has established an MT demonstration center to develop and change fuel recycling by integrating smart management technologies in order to realize the goal of "energy transformation." Aiming to push for a circular economy, Taoyuan designs and processes waste into energy and recycling industrial chains, inventing innovative technologies that recycle resources, products, and waste, reducing energy and resource waste, and changing old industries into low-carbon or zero-carbon sectors. Various home products created from recycled waste, PET bottles, and other objects are presented in the Taoyuan Pavilion's "Environmental Sustainability" exhibition section, demonstrating that people of all ages may practice sustainability in their daily life.
Taoyuan is the only city among the six municipalities in Taiwan with a natural population growth and the city with the youngest average age of its citizens. In response to the "lifestyle transformation" goal that citizens can relate to, Taoyuan showcases its charm as a city in "continuous transformation" with projects such as "30 kilometers of Happiness," "1200 Megacity Pass (TPASS)," "Youthful E-Shopping," "Women and Children E-Riding Go," and "Three Hearts Six Lines 2.0 (Metro Network Expansion Plans)," making Taoyuan's sustainable lifestyle more diverse. In addition to convenient transportation policies, Taoyuan actively promotes "social transformation" policies, introducing a series of family-friendly policies such as "maternity bonus (NT$10,000 for each additional child)," "free tuition for 5-year-olds," "free nutrition lunch for primary and middle school students," "postpartum psychological counseling," "egg freezing nutrition subsidy," "full-year term for substitute teachers," "Peaceful Taoyuan Project - Eliminate Modified Car Noise." Faced with the challenges of an aging population, the municipal administration is investing in social welfare and the economy through programs such as "Smart Remote Healthcare" and "Expanding Early Screening for Lung Cancer." These efforts aim to ensure that families may live more secure and happy lives, and that residents can access high-quality care regardless of where they live. The goal is to make Taoyuan a welcoming and pleasant city where citizens can live without worry, promoting happiness and well-being.
Director Shih-Wei Chen of the Environmental Protection Bureau stated that the Taoyuan Pavilion is jointly responding to the sustainable Taoyuan initiative with local enterprises such as Delta Electronics, Green Taiwan/Eco Smart, Super Textile, TJGWood/Taijei Precision, Sheng Hung Industrial/Sheng Yang International, YesHealth Smart Farm, Sha Yang Ye Industrial, Pacific Cycles, O’right, and Taiwan Toy Library Association. An AR reality checkpoint event will be held during the exhibition. Participants will have the chance to win limited sustainable gifts such as sustainable coffee made from fair trade coffee beans with a special reusable cup, fresh vegetables from YesHealth Smart Farm, Phoenix Fiber bags from Super Textile, and a set of solar-powered racing cars from Sha Yang Ye Robotics Dream Factory. Furthermore, by posting a photo of "My Sustainable Lifestyle" to the "DuDu Park Ranger - Taoyuan City Environmental Education Ambassador'' Facebook fan page event post, participants will be entered to win the CarryMe SD folding bike, valued at over NT$20,000! The invitation is extended to online and offline sustainable collaborators to support sustainable living and realize a net-zero future.
The challenges that climate change poses are extensive. As a center connecting Taiwan and the rest of the world, Taoyuan will continue to promote sustainable governance plans based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that prioritize health and friendliness, comfortable living, and wisdom and resilience.
