The Department of Environmental Protection held the “Commendation and Award Ceremony for Outstanding Members of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Demolition Households Waste Cleanup Team” yesterday (26th) at the Aerotropolis Joint Service Center. One hundred members of the environmental cleaning brigade, who have diligently assisted in the removal of waste from the demolition households in Aerospace City, were honored and awarded. Team leader Lin Li-Chang delivered a speech expressing gratitude to all 167 dedicated colleagues who have tirelessly participated in the demolition cleanup tasks over the past year. Their commitment has resulted in over 3,000 attendances and the removal of approximately 6,000 metric tons of waste. Mayor Chang Shan-Cheng highly praised the team members for their spirit of sacrifice and dedication to serving the citizens. He instructed the Department of Environmental Protection to present convenience store gift vouchers worth over NT$200,000 as a gesture of respect and admiration to the hardworking members of the cleaning team. Councilor Hsu Chi-Wan of Dayuan District, Councilor Yu Wu-Ho, President Lin Yu-Tsai of the Dayuan Chief of Village Association, Chairman Lai Chi-Jen of the Department of Environmental Protection Corporate Union, and Chairman Yeh Shih-Chi of the Environmental Maintenance and Inspection Division Corporate Union were also present to show their support and encouragement to the team members.
Director Chen Shih-Wei of the Department of Environmental Protection stated that the Taoyuan Aerotropolis is a major national construction project, and approximately 75% of the land within the development area has been acquired through parcel expropriation. Many voluntary demolition households that have complied with the policy have generated large amounts of waste and large-sized furniture within a short period. Although professional companies have been commissioned by the acquiring authorities to carry out the cleanup, the sheer quantity has made timely disposal challenging, leading to numerous incidents of improper disposal. To maintain the city’s appearance and environmental quality, the Environmental Maintenance and Inspection Division proactively dispatched 12 district teams and provided manpower and equipment for assistance since March of last year. Up until the end of February this year, a total of 167 personnel were mobilized, resulting in 3,021 trips and the removal of 6,084 metric tons of waste. Among them, 15 team members who had attended over 60 times were invited to attend the public award ceremony. Notably, the top two cleaning team members attended 98 times, both of whom are local residents of Dayuan. The Dayuan district team accounted for over 90% of the total attendance, trips, and waste removal, demonstrating commendable performance.
Director Chen Shih-Wei emphasized that, in recognition of the arduous efforts of the cleaning team members in assisting with the cleanup of waste from the Taoyuan Aerotropolis demolition households, Mayor Chang Shan-Cheng instructed the Department of Environmental Protection to provide substantial rewards and publicly commend those who have made outstanding contributions. Therefore, the department issued convenience store vouchers based on the level of contribution by each participating member. Those who attended over 80 times received NT$5,000 vouchers, those who attended 60 to 79 times received NT$4,000 vouchers, those who attended 40 to 59 times received NT$3,000 vouchers, those who attended 20 to 39 times received NT$2,000 vouchers, and those who attended 5 to 19 times received NT$1,000 vouchers. In total, 100 team members were awarded, with the total amount exceeding NT$200,000.
The Environmental Maintenance and Inspection Division stated that the automatic demolition of buildings in Taoyuan Aerotropolis will continue to October 31, 2024. In the future, the cleanup team members will continue to be dedicated to assisting in the clearance of waste from the demolition households, aiming to restore the cleanliness of the city in the shortest time possible, in order to prevent the breakout of dengue fever due to environmental untidiness.
