Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng visited the newly approved O’right Environmental Education Facility "Melting Greenland” in Taoyuan City today (13) to attend the unveiling ceremony of the "Melting Greenland" exhibition. O’right initiated the "Melting Greenland Project" to bring back to Taiwan the insights and inspiration from the frontlines of climate change. The environmental education courses at the exhibition focus on the issues of environmental protection and climate change, and the content is easily understandable and resonating, allowing people to rekindle their connection with the natural environment, and attesting to the saying: "To reduce climate change, we must start with environmental education."
As a leading green enterprise in Taoyuan City, O’right has been actively and voluntarily participating in various environmental protection evaluations and awards, and has been recognized with many international awards. The company has also become a driving force in environmental education field sites. In the promotion of public affairs, O’right has also enthusiastically supported various activities of the city government and the Taoyuan City Department of Environmental Protection (TYDEP), including responding to the establishment of environmental education facilities, while the city government and the TYDEP have provided counseling and assistance to the company in the process. This has helped O’right to successfully to obtain the TYDEP environmental education facility certification, thereby becoming the 31st environmental education facility in Taoyuan.
According to the TYDEP, O’right has been transforming itself into a green company since inception, at a time when environmental protection was still underappreciated. In addition to launching zero-carbon toiletries, the company has also included a high percentage (about 90%) of carbon emissions in the "consumer use" phase (e.g., rinsing water and heating electricity) in its carbon inventory, making it the first beauty and cosmetics company in the world to achieve carbon neutrality. When participating in the “Net-Zero Carbon Economy” forum at COP26 (the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference) in 2021, the company presented the idea that “environmental protection can be solved by economic means," which is the best demonstration of corporate coexistence with nature.
The TYDEP also pointed out that climate change and net-zero carbon emissions are pivotal environmental issues for the city. The city government recognizes and encourages O’right's efforts and advocacy on these issues, and hopes that through O’right's zero-carbon sustainability corporate benchmarking, enterprises in Taoyuan will also be inspired to take joint environmental actions, pay attention to environmental, social and governance (ESG), and collaborate with various city government bureaus to jointly make public-private efforts to enable Taoyuan to take the lead in moving toward the "2050 net-zero emissions" goal, and building a "low-carbon city model."
