For 10 consecutive years, the Taoyuan City Government has been awarded the "Outstanding Unit for Green Procurement among Government Agencies" in recognition of its outstanding performance. The Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan held the "2021 Annual Green Procurement Recognition Ceremony for Government Agencies" on December 26 to recognize the efforts made by various government agencies for green procurement.
In order to promote green consumption and a circular economy in Taoyuan City, Taoyuan City has enforced the "Taoyuan City Government Green Procurement Performance Evaluation, Reward and Punishment Guidelines" since 2012. All city government bureaus and district offices have taken the lead in implementing green procurement practices, and have encouraged enterprises under their jurisdiction to jointly promote green consumption and strive to shape a green consumption culture in Taoyuan. In 2021, the Taoyuan City Government achieved outstanding green procurement performance results, with the procurement amount increasing by 1.2 times compared to previous years, reaching NT$1.27 billion, not only achieving a perfect score of 100 in the assessment for the second consecutive year but also maintaining a 100% achievement rate in the designated procurement of environmentally friendly products, achieving the highest grade of excellence.
The Taoyuan City Department of Environmental Protection (TYDEP) noted that promoting green procurement and encouraging priority purchases of environmentally friendly green products will not only expand Taoyuan's green consumption power, but it will also promote enterprises to invest more effort in producing environmentally friendly goods and promote environmental protection through economic incentives, so that economic development and environmental protection can achieve complementary benefits. Based on the outcome of green procurement expedited by the Taoyuan City Government in 2021, it was estimated that the procurement and use of green products (including office paper, tissue paper, electronic devices and home appliances) reduced 713.45 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, reduced up to 135.1 kWh of power and saved up to 687.78 tons of water. This cut down expenditures and made significant contributions to environmental protection efforts.
Taoyuan spares no effort in green living. Building a green consumption environment and forging ahead toward a low-carbon city are always the key points of administration. By encouraging all authorities of the city government to prioritize products with green labels, the city government stimulated green consumption in Taoyuan. All private enterprises and the companies in the green service industry worked with the city government to promote and echo the idea of green consumption, enhancing the environmental quality and striving to become a low-carbon green city of sustainable development.
