In the competition of 368 Cleaning Team Captains across the country, 10 were selected as national model cleaning squad captains. Hsiao-Wan Wu, the captain of the Environmental Maintenance and Inspection Division in Taoyuan District, stood out among many other outstanding candidates in the fierce competition, and won the crowning glory as a national model cleaning team captain. As the gateway to the nation, the management of the city’s appearance and environmental cleanliness is particularly important. Being the first exemplary cleaning team captain in Taoyuan City is therefore especially significant.

Li-Teh Lu, Director-General of the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taoyuan City Government (TYDEP), pointed out that the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) has taken notice of the increasing importance attached by the public to the urban environment. The workload of cleaning team members is getting heavier and heavier, and the team captain plays an especially important role. The Taoyuan District Squadron is the largest squadron among the 13 district squadrons in Taoyuan City. Captain Wu leads more than 500 cleaning team members, exceeding the total number of cleaning team members in other counties and cities, to carry out the maintenance of the city environment and garbage collection in the Taoyuan area. Captain Wu is an exemplary team leader who has been tasked with such a heavy responsibility, and is rightly deserving as a role model and standing out in this national competition.

Director-General Lu noted that Captain Wu transferred from the environmental protection police to his current position. During his tenure as the captain of Daxi District and Taoyuan District, he not only assisted the two districts in setting up waste repair and recovery stations with his creativity, but also gradually adjusted the cleaning routes to ensure on-time rate. In addition, he also led the cleaning team members to pass the ISO45001 occupational safety and health management system certification, and in the past two year, whether it was COVID-19 or the dengue fever epidemic, Captain Wu also took the lead and stood on the front line of epidemic prevention with the cleaning team members. It can therefore be said he was rightfully recognized as a national model cleaning team captain and the pride of the Taoyuan District Squadron.

Captain Wu expressed his gratitude to the EPA and the city administration for their support, and to the public for their recognition of the efforts of all the cleaning team members in Taoyuan District. With the seamless teamwork of all colleagues, the cityscape of Taoyuan District will be increasingly improved. In the future, Captain Wu will continue to work together for the environment of Taoyuan with these partners who support each other with a sense of mission and loyalty.
